Plan to merge forums |
|
It's too annoying to have two entirely separate boards (especially since this one is getting no attention), and when new projects are released then I'd either have to pick a board to add to or create a THIRD one.
Once I finish writing FORUM2 the accounts, posts and forums of eoserv.net/forum and forum.eohax.org will be merged together. Once EO.alt is ready a forum will be created for that too.
There will be four main benefits from this:
- The EOHax forums will get a better chance for some decent moderation and new features
- The moderators have only one forum and one account to worry about
- The eoserv.net forum users can bring activity to the Lounge (there is no off-topicness allowed anywhere on eoserv.net currently) and easily catch interesting posts in other forums they were missing before. The communities won't be as separated.
- The forums look more active, so people might be more encouraged to join.
There are, however, some problems that need to be resolved also
- Name conflicts: Two people registering the same name on eoserv.net and forum.eohax.org: For the accounts created after the split the most active account will be chosen and the inactive one renamed.
- Moderators: forum.eohax.org and eoserv.net's moderation team differ quite greatly: The lists will be pretty much merged (and the obsolete
- eoserv.net user average intelligence level: It seems to be a lot lower than the average Internet citizen, so there will be rage and confusion comparable to Facebook changing their layout.
- Theme: What style do we use? The current EOHax one or write a new, clean one?
Staff roll:
- Administrators: Sausage, Scott, Sordie
- Moderators: Plasmastar, Addison, Apollo, "sblord"
- Peacekeepers: Sickshot, Syran
Unrelated FORUM2 changes:
- Private messaging
- Notices when your posts are deleted, moved, rated etc.
- A decent moderation panel
- A BBCode posting box (an improvement for everyone who hates this RTE crap)
- Post citing instead of quoting
Feel free to discuss your feelings on the merge, vote for or against it, and give your opinion on the moderation. This will happen when FORUM2 is ready, so it could be a while.

I think it sounds like a good idea.
About the layout, if you were to make a new one, do you have any idea what it may look like?

Seems like a good idea. I do think you could make a new theme. The new FORUM2 features will be helpful. ;D
Edit: What about watchdogs?

I'm thinking either the generic white and blue or basing something off of the eohax.org website (after making it suck less). Maybe it's best to just stick with this theme, it looks nice enough.
Edit: Fuck the watchdogs, there's 2 of them and they don't do anything anyway.

White and blue sound good... EOHax is too dark for me.

I agree with Scott, the blue and white sounds good. I don't really mind the dark. Maybe you could make a theme switching option?

I have also an account on eoserv.net with the same name. So when you'l be merging forums you can delete this one. And if you can please change my eoserv.net account name to "bart".

voting for it, even though I don't post alot on this board, I still do visit it regularly(not so much the eoserv forum)
Edit: While I really do like the EoHax layout, perhaps it is time for a change. something more inviting maybe?

Re: Plan to merge forums |

First off, let me start by showing support in the move to use the old EOHax template or a brand new template over the current EOServ.net template. EOHax always had the better look and feel of the two, being darker but at the same time more vibrant. With Endless Online servers these days attempting to stray from the default brown look of Endless Online, it makes sense to use our own template.
Cheers

Re: Plan to merge forums |

I like the idea of one big forum AGAIN, as this was the way it was previously 'till the eoserv site got big enough that sausage wanted to separate things, however I hope the same reasons for separating them do not arise again.
Also, I do understand I am not longer active with this community, as my life is busy, I am certainly glad things and other people are active. |
